Kerry GAA

Last Sunday, and the week before that, my blood boiled as I watched Cork play Kerry. I will admit I have such a loathing for Kerry but their style of play, to me, is unacceptable. Every team commit fouls, but those committed by the Kingdom have a most definite cynicism about them.  Watch out for dirty tackles by the likes of Donaghy in the semi-circle. It prevents a likely goal, but yet no penalty is awarded. I fully believe that the physical side of football must remain in the game, but some fouls are just unacceptable. Think Darragh O'Sé.
I also have a problem with the attitude of some of the players. Paul Galvin is one name that quickly comes to mind. Fighting with fellow players is one thing, but disrespecting the officials is despicable. The manner in which Galvin treated that referee was sickening, and he deserves a far more severe punishment than what he got away with. Sometimes I find myself wondering what Pat O'Shea actually teaches them...
Finally I would like to commend the Cork footballers. The belief and spirit they showed when playing Kerry was inspiring. The players are superb at what they do, and it was just unlucky that they couldn't manage to play the whole game like they did the end. I want to thank them, on behalf of supporters everywhere, for giving us hope, as well as joy. And perhaps next year, we will be rightfully acknowledged as an iconic GAA county.
It's easy for Kilkenny to be the best hurlers when it's the only sport they play, and likewise for Kerry with the football. I am proud to be a true Corkonian, and how could I fulfil my duties if I didn't take this opportunity to say to Kerry that you are the most hated county in Ireland.

Not that I'm bitter or anything.

Google Chrome

The new Browser from Google is an absolute dream. I heard it was a bit bare, and took getting used to, but I doubt I'll ever go back to Internet Explorer. The main advantage for me is the increased speed. It's amazing. And in true Google fashion, it's simple but effective. There's no unnecessary toolbars or icons. It is, for me, the perfect internet experience.

Rock on Google, even if you are taking over the world.

Flag Day

So, guess what I spent my day doing? In town, raising much needed funds for the RNLI Lifeboats. I started out at 10 a.m. in my yellow bib and armed with my boat-shaped collection box and roll of stickers. And, woah, it's tiring. I probably said "Support the Lifeboats please" about 500 times...crazy. But, on the plus side, I got the day off school! And then we visited our favourite security guard as we stood outside in the pissing rain, and he gazed out at us, dry and warm. I swear to God, I so need new Dubes. Mine just soaked up the water like a sponge and my feet were in agony. I bought the second part of a long overdue birthday present and got on the bus, welcomed by a sweet 70c fare, all thanks to a uniform.

God I hate the weather.

Cork v Kilkenny

Well done to the Cork lads. Yes, they lost, but they put up a brave performance against such a strong Kilkenny side and made me truly proud to be a Corkonian. Players such as Diarmuid O'Sullivan were truly superb. This is the Cork team I have grown up with. They made me develop such a deep passion for the game, and for Cork. Speculation is everywhere that the Rock and others may have played their last game in Croke Park, and this may be true, but I know along with everyone else that there are another few years left in these players yet, if they choose to continue. I have such respect for the Cork team that walked out on Sunday. They went into that match as underdogs and were unsurprisingly beaten, but one match does not defina a team. There is alot more to that team than what we saw on Sunday, and they will have their day, some other time.

The Junior Certificate

Well, well, well. Where do I start? After three long years of preparation, finally it actually happened! You really never think the big exams are going to come around, but they do, and all too fast. I really thought the year flew, and one year is such a short amount of time to cram 11 subjects, and stupidly enough I left it till the last few months. I was worried, nervous for some subjects, pretty relaxed for others. But once I got in there, it was like any other exam. I really had no complaints with any of the papers apart from English Paper 1, which I felt was a bit abstract. It felt more like a CSPE paper, rather than English. Other than that, every exam went fine. I feel both teachers and the media hype up exams too much. And, yes, I know I haven't yet done the Leaving, but I'm just speaking from my personal experience. We hear so much about the negative effects of exams on students, but if we are not pushed to the limit we are never going to achieve our potential. I want to aim high in life, and if exams are what will get me to where I want to be, then so be it. I will try my very best and hope the results are what I deserve. All will be revealed on the second Wednesday of September...

Meanwhile, the Leaving Cert results are out this Wednesday. Good luck to everyone, and I hope you all get the points for the courses you want. I have great respect for anyone who has ever repeated the Leaving so that they can get the course they want. And FFS, ye're damn lucky! I wish I was off to Trinity in September, but no such luck!

Back for good...

I know I have neglected my blog so much in the past few months, although I had good reason! I was doing State Exams here in Ireland and then I was in Italy for 2 weeks, so I've had my hands full. I really am not sure what type of blog this will be yet, but for now I'll just try anything and everything.

Desperate Housewives

Like, OMG, did we all see this last night??! What was with Victor...looks like he's dead but only 'Edie-dead'. No doubt he'll turn up when we all least expect it. Some hot boat though. And how about Lynette's mother? She would just walk away when Lynette wants to take her back... It is soooo awful about Mike. It's so mean on Susan...he would be smart enough to just put them down the sink. And Catherine is SUCH a biatch!!! Like making up all tht shit...what is the real story??? Are they like never going to hoover the aunt's bedroom??? That was just bitchy what Brie did with the baby... And it looks like we're going to have to wait another two weeks for any more gossip from Wisteria Lane thanks to that lovely Champions League!

Dustin!!!!

So what does everyone think of this one??!!! You either like him or hate him I guess!! Then of course there's those of you who absolutely despise the Eurovision and love anything that ridicules it. I suppose I'd consider myself to be a Dustin-lover...I grew up with him in a way on network 2 with the Den so it's cool to see him on the scene again. Of course we all enjoy his annual appearance on The Late Late Toy Show and his smart-ass comments to Pat! But what about the actual song itself?? Irlande Douze Points is really quite a good song! I mean it is the Eurovision we're talking about here so loud, gaudy, ridiculous and raucous is the way to go! Yes, the song mocks a different variety of things but people need to relate to a song to enjoy it. There is the hurdle of the semi-final to be passed first, but shur after that we're flying!!!!! I wish good luck to Dustin, and hopefully he'll get to the final, maybe even snatching our eighth title. And who knows where he'll go after that?!!

Micheal Collins - A Musical Drama

Anyone heard of this? It was running in Cork Opera House last week and I went to see it on Saturday. Sitting in the 3rd row was quite an ... intimate (!) ... experience!! Opening during the 1916 Rising, it follows Collins through his years of fighting for a republic, until his tragic death during the Civil War on home territory. The songs were unreal spesh the Civil War song and Fly The Flag Of Freedom! It received a well deserved standing ovation and I certainly burned off a maxi twist's worth of calories from all the apllauding! I guess I could be a bit biased, considering Mick is one of my heroes...but really, anyone would enjoy it. Mick Collins is one of the most legendary, iconic heroes in our nation's illusive history. Hailing from Cork certainly only serves to increase his appeal!

Brit: "You're seven minutes late."
Collins: "You kept us waiting seven hundred years, you can have your seven minutes."

A legend or what?

Hello!

Ok, this is probably going to be an extremely random blog, but I like the idea! Chances are it will just be me rambling on but if you're reading stay and have a look around! It's not that boring!
